Nasya
Ayurvedic Nasal Therapy
A specialised Ayurvedic cleansing therapy involving the administration of herbal oils into the nostrils to clear toxins and mucus from the head, neck and throat.
Originating in India thousands of years ago, Nasya is an ancient foundational detoxification practice in Ayurveda. In the Ayurvedic understanding of the human system, the nose is the direct pathway to the mind, nervous system, and prana (vital life force). Nasya gently opens blocked channels, detoxifies the head region, and restores balance.
A powerful treatment that has a myriad of health benefits
Respiratory and Sinus Health: clears mucus and nasal congestion, eases sinus pressure, and supports treatment of sinusitis and allergies
Mental Clarity: relieves tension headaches and migraines while improving memory and focus
Mental Health: reduces anxiety and lifts depression
Sensory Organ Support: lubricates dry nasal passages, enhances vision and improves hearing
Detoxification and Immunity: removes toxins from the head region and helps boost immune function and improve digestion
Improved Sleep: has a direct calming effect on the nervous system, assisting with insomnia and fatigue
What happens during the treatment?
Your treatment begins with a soothing but stimulating warm oil massage of the head, face and neck in order to dilate the sinuses and nasopharyngeal lymphatics.
This is followed by herbalised steam inhalation that will heat your face, head, neck and upper chest to help loosen and liquefy your mucus for ease of elimination.
Special nasal drops are then administered to your nose while specific areas of your face are massaged to assist the drops to fully penetrate.
The sequence of steam inhalation and drops is then repeated a number of times to facilitate the elimination of mucus; however the procedure may be altered depending on the individual nature of where the mucus is located in your system.
Are there contra-indications that could prevent me from having a Nasya?
We do not give this procedure if cold sores, eczema or psoriasis are present on the face, head, neck or nasal passages.
If you are pregnant, have high blood pressure or are experiencing fever, chills or flu symptoms, this procedure is not recommended.
As you will be lying on a massage table on your back with your head tilted backwards to receive the nasal drops, acute trauma/dislocation/damage to the neck, face or head may prevent you from having a Nasya.
